Riot (also written sometimes as RiOT, formerly Renovation Games or simply Reno) was one of Telenet Japan's in-house development teams. They were mainly responsible for the ports of several Telenet games on the PC Engine, such as Browning, Valis, Exile (also known as XZR) and Xak I & II.

History[]

Riot was founded in 1988 as Reno (which later split in Riot and Renovation Products) and started developing Telenet games for home computers (the first one being Valis II). After 1990 the team moved its development target to consoles, mostly the PC-Engine CD/Turbografx-CD, but they also developed some games for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and Super Famicom/SNES, mostly sequels of games they developed for the home computers. In 1994 they were folded back into Telenet.

Trivia[]

  • Many Riot advertisement boards appear in the background buildings of Valis I along with Telenet and many of its subsidiaries.
  • Riot must not be confused with Riot Games Inc., another game development company from the U.S. that has nothing to do with Telenet.
